Apple, Black Peppermint, Pineapple

Latin: Mentha Spp.

Synonyms: Garden mint.

Botanical Description:

  • Creeping root stocks produce erect square stems up to 40cm.

  • Lanceolate leaves with finely toothed edges and hairy or smooth surfaces.

  • Small pink or lilac flowers arranged in whorls in the axils of upper leaves.

  • Very aromatic.

Parts used: Herb, essential oil.

Constituents:

  • Essential oil of varying composition.

  • Flavonoids.

  • Rosmarinic acid.

Actions:

  • Stimulant.

  • Antispasmodic.

  • Carminative.

Uses:

  • Mostly used for culinary purposes.

  • Nausea, hiccoughs and flatulence.
